Listen to the musicians before you book them. Anyone can write a nice biography but the whole point of a band is the sound. Never book a band without listening to them first. Although it's not always possible, try to see the band play live as well. This way they will know exactky what you are getting.

Read testimonials and comments from previous clients. See what other people who have booked the bands thought of their work. Anything negative that has happened should show up there.

Use a reputable agency. If you are paying good money for a band then you need some sort of reputable middle man. There are lots of things that can go wrong with a band (illness, travel problems etc) and an egent or agency will have other artists that they can send as a last minute replacement.

Plan ahead. Good bands will take bookings up to three years in advance. Book early to avoid dissapointment. Also, Don't be put off if they ask for a deposit up-front, all good outfits will do this!
